🌸 Introduction
At Venunye Foundation, we believe that empowering women means empowering entire families. Through our transformative initiative — Empowering Women, Empowering Families: The Kpando Success Story — we’ve seen firsthand how women’s empowerment ignites community growth, builds self-reliance, and creates lasting hope for future generations in Ghana.
What started as a small skills training program for a few mothers in Kpando, a town in Ghana’s Volta Region, has blossomed into a movement changing lives across the community.
🌍 The Challenge: Poverty and Limited Opportunity
In many parts of rural Ghana, women face barriers that prevent them from achieving economic independence.
Without access to education, vocational training, or financial resources, countless mothers struggle to support their families and keep their children in school.
At Venunye Foundation, we saw this reality up close — women with determination and talent, but without the opportunities to use them.
We knew that empowering these women was the key to breaking the cycle of poverty.
đź’› The Initiative: Skills That Spark Change
To address this challenge, the Venunye Foundation Women Empowerment Program was launched in Kpando.
The initiative provides hands-on training, mentorship, and startup support for women who want to build small businesses and create sustainable income for their families.
Our programs focus on:
- 🧵 Tailoring and Sewing: Giving women skills to produce uniforms and clothing for local schools.
- 🧼 Soap and Bead Making: Encouraging small-scale enterprises that meet community needs.
- 🌾 Sustainable Farming: Teaching women how to grow vegetables and cassava to support household nutrition.
- đź’°Â Micro-Savings & Business Management:Â Training on budgeting, saving, and reinvesting income.
Each woman receives the resources, tools, and confidence to start her journey toward independence and dignity.
🌟 A Success Story: Meet Akosua
Akosua, a 32-year-old single mother of three, joined our first women’s skills training cohort in Kpando. Before joining, she sold vegetables by the roadside, earning barely enough to feed her children.
Through Venunye Foundation’s program, she learned tailoring and business management. With a donated sewing machine and mentorship, Akosua started her own small shop making school uniforms and clothing for local families.
Today, she employs two other women and earns enough to send her children to school.
“Venunye Foundation gave me the chance to stand on my own,” Akosua says proudly. “Now I can feed my family and help other women do the same.”
Her story mirrors that of dozens of women who have gone from surviving to thriving — thanks to your support.
